Baby Clothing Quilt

This was a baby project of mine - a baby quilt made out of baby clothes! I added appliqued lettering for his name and also some cute little baby feet out of some of the scrap material I had left over. When January comes around, I am going to be using the rest of the scraps to make a pillow!

Scrappy Placemats Tutorial

Okay, here is my quick run through. I will post pictures as soon as things calm down in January! If you have any questions, email me and I will be happy to help! :) Enjoy!
MATERIALS:
Several different prints of cotton fabric (I did 1/4 yard each)
Rotary Cutter
Cutting Mat
Matching Thread (I just used white since I had so many fabric colors)
Quilt Batting
Solid Fabric for backing (for 8 placemats I used a little under 2 yards)
Iron/Iron Board
Straight Pins
DIRECTIONS
1. Wash all fabric the way you will wash after use
2. Iron all cottons
3. Cut out different strips of the fabric you will use for the front but no less than 2 inches width. Its okay if they do not all measure up to 21 inches in legnth. We will address that later on
4. Start pulling all the different materials together and lay them out randomly to get about 14-15 inches in height
5. Start sewing each batch together. Start with two strips facing each other and keep adding the strips
5. Iron seams down
6. Straighten edges
7. Add width if needed
a. measure length. Take away from 21 and add one inch. Then divide that number by two so you can add to both sides
b. Cut material using the number above for width and height should be 13.
c. Sew on to each side
d. Iron seam down
8. Repeat steps 1-7 for your next 7 of your placemat fronts
9. Cut quilt batting 13x21
10. Cut cotton backing fabric 13x21
11. Place fabric in the following order
a. Quilt batting - facing up
b. Front of placemat - facing up
c. Solid backing fabric - facing down
12. Pin together
13. Start sewing 3/4 down on one side (dont forget to start by locking your stich)
14. keep sewing all around the placemat until you get to the sidey ou started on
15. Give yourself about 3 inches with no stiching and lock your stich
16. Trim edges with your rotary cutter
17. Turn inside out
18. Iron ... again
19. Pin opening closed
20. Top stich
